Early Life
Virgil van Dijk was born on 8th July, 1991 in Breda, Netherlands. He was born in a family of football lovers, and his father inspired him to play football. His father himself was a football player. Virgil began his football career when he was just 6 years old, and joined the youth team of Willem II, his local club.
Youth Career
After starting his football career at just six years old with the youth team of Willem II, he soon transferred to Groningen in 2010 as a 19-year-old. He spent a few years in the youth academy of Groningen, where he developed his skills and matured into a solid center-back.
Professional Career
His professional career began at Groningen, where he was promoted to the first team in 2011. During the 2012-2013 season, Van Dijk was outstanding, making 37 appearances and scoring 10 goals.
