Early life
Jair Ventura Filho, also known as Jairzinho, was born on December 25th, 1944, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Son of a security guard and a housewife, he grew up in a poor neighborhood named Ramos, and his childhood was spent playing football in the streets, his passion for the game visible from a very young age.
EARLY CAREER
Jairzinho began his career at the age of 15 when he was signed by Botafogo, a major Brazilian football club in Rio de Janeiro. He was a part of the youth system of the club until 1962, when he made his first-team debut at the age of 17. Jairzinho's prodigious talent soon caught the eye, and he was promoted to the main squad. In the late 1960s, Jairzinho was a part of a formidable Botafogo side that won several titles including the Carioca Championships and the Rio-São Paulo Tournament.
NATIONAL TEAM CAREER
Jairzinho's performances at club level saw him being called up to the Brazilian national team. He played in three World Cups for the national side - 1966, 1970, and 1974. His greatest achievement came in the 1970 World Cup, where he played a pivotal role in helping Brazil win their third World Cup title. POST-WORLD CUP CAREER
After his tremendous success in the World Cup, Jairzinho moved to Europe in 1974 to play for French club Olympique Marseille. He played for two years in France before moving back to Brazil, where he chose to play for the Cruzeiro club. He had short stints with several other clubs including Portuguesa-SP, Noroeste-SP, Jorge Wilstermann of Bolivia, and 9 de Octubre of Ecuador before retiring in 1982.

After retiring as a player, Jairzinho became a football coach. He managed several Brazilian clubs but was particularly influential at Botafogo, the club where he had spent most of his playing career. He also managed clubs in the Middle East and Europe, and was part of the backroom staff of the Brazilian national team that won the 1994 World Cup.
